Very High Cost Cases (VHCC)

If you have been suspected of committing a complex and/or serious crime and either have been charged or facing charge with grave or serious offences, often involving a significant amount of paperwork and with other defendants who are charged with similar offences, you may be in a position, where although you are eligible to be granted legal aid for your representation by your solicitors and barristers, you may fall within what is commonly called ‘Very High Cost Case’ provisions.

Very High Cost Cases are defined as those cases which may, if they go to trial, last over 40 but more often 60 days.

They are cases involving a significant amount of prosecution paperwork and often relate to the most serious criminal cases that come before the courts.
