LNL – Stunning success for Leila Abdul-Rasool and Nichola Cafferkey of Counsel

Leila Abdul-Rasool’s client was one of eight defendants subject to a large and complex prosecution brought by West Midlands Police Regional Organised Crime Unit, HMRC and the CPS Complex Fraud Unit.

The indictment spanned six years and included offences of Conspiracy to Defraud, Conspiracy to Cheat the Revenue and Perverting the Course of Justice.

The prosecution focused on what was said to be a sophisticated multi-million pound operation involving numerous corporate identities alleged to be involved in cash for crash motor insurance fraud.

The defendants were arrested in 2016; the trial commencing in November 2024. Following extensive legal arguments including multiple submissions regarding disclosure the prosecution offered no evidence and not guilty verdicts were returned. Nichola Cafferkey of 33 Bedford Row leading Jennifer Brenton were instructed counsel.
