Controversial SOCA Report On Hacking

There has been much debate about the alleged suppression of a report by SOCA concerning the degree of telephone/email hacking, industrial espionage, and other serious privacy breaches by others than the media industry. In fact SOCA is of the view that the media hacking scandal is just the tip of the iceberg.

SOCA is adamant that it released information about hacking by private investigators instructed by law firms, the telecoms and insurance industries in 2008.

Quite frankly, this is old news. Both Miles Herman and Siobhain Egan represented individuals facing allegations of telephone/email hacking, and ‘blagging’ sensitive, personal and commercial information at the instruction of law firms specialising in divorce matters, company/commercial law firms, and those representing the insurance and telecom industries.

The prosecution focused upon an investigation agency known as AIS, which was largely run and staffed by serving and former police officers (amongst others) in 2004.
