Alice specialises in serious and complex crime

Alice is an experienced solicitor with over 25 years’ experience. She trained and practiced for 10 years within a large north London firm before moving to the Thames Valley area 17 years ago. Previously she has run her own firm and has been head of litigation for all 19 offices of a nationwide law firm.

As a defence solicitor, Alice specialises in serious and complex crime and is known for her success in defending such cases. She is committed to obtaining the best possible outcome for a client, through her diligent preparation of cases.

Her experience ranges from fraud and money laundering, murder, international organised crime conspiracies, large scale multi defendant drug conspiracies, to Sexual grooming rings and child expoitation, indecent images, rape, and assault and theft.

Alice is known for her straightforward yet sensitive approach with those that she represents. The rapport and trust that she builds has resulted in Alice being instructed to act on behalf of individuals with complex social and/or behavioural difficulties, including those who are mentally unwell, as well as those defendants with little or no knowledge of the Criminal Justice System.

Interviews under caution

Alice regularly attends the police station, or other establishments with a client where an interview under caution is to take place and believes that careful representation at this stage of a case is essential.

Duty Solicitor

She is also a police station and court duty solicitor.

Court Appearances

Alice will appear in person at Court with a client wherever possible.

In preparing a case for trial, Alice will regularly instruct Kings Counsel, forensic experts such as accountants, psychiatrists and psychologists.

Military Law

Alice understands the importance of any civilian or military police enquiry or criminal proceedings will have on the lives and careers of military personnel.

She has expertise in representing members of the British Army and the RAF from initial investigation and interview by the SIB or RMP through to Courts Martial, as well as representing the military in investigations by civilian police and court proceedings.

She has been instructed on cases ranging from thefts, fraud, disobeying orders, sexual assaults, through to Iraqi Historic Allegations Team Investigations (Murder).

Royal College of Nurses

Alice has been instructed by the RCN to represent nurses who have been accused of misconduct and are being investigated by the police or their professional body. This representation has ranged from a manager of a care home allegedly allowing mistreatment of elderly patients, to claiming extra payment for shifts not worked, and theft.

Travelling Community and Showman’s Guild

She regularly represents members of the travelling community and members of the Showman’s Guild for offences such as rape, dangerous dog offences, and assaults.

Alice speaks French and will take instructions directly from a French speaking client without the need for an interpreter.

Recent cases include:

  • Multi-handed Trading Standard prosecutions
  • Multi-handed (34,000 page) drug conspiracy
  • Child sexual exploitation cases: the charges rose out of a police investigation known as Operation Nautical: an investigation into child exploitation by Asian gangs. The trial took had been nearly four months. There were 16 defendants and the investigation arose out of the Bullfinch child exploitation case. After three days in retirement, Alice’s two clients were acquitted by a jury of all counts.
  • Conspiracy to rob and to falsely imprison – unanimous not guilty verdicts to all charges, multi-handed.
  • Possession with intent to supply – included expert evidence on PTSD and the impact such had on the reliability of the defendant’s interview.
  • Fraud by abuse of position – bank manager
  • Murder and perverting the course of justice, 73 year old defendant
  • Murder – death occurred by accident during a sex game.
  • Arson with intent to endanger life – multi-occupancy house – complex mental health issues. Mental Health Act disposal.
  • After a 7 week trial at Oxford Crown Court, acquittal of murder, two counts of  s.18 GBH and conspiracy to supply Class A drugs by unanimous verdicts.  The co-defendants were both convicted on all four counts.
  • R v G (Sept 2023), Oxford Crown Court. Sexual communication with a child.
  • R v W (April 2023), Oxford Crown Court. Sexual assault of two children under 13.
  • R v M (May/June 2023), Oxford Crown Court. 4 handed murder.
  • R v N (Nov 2018) Defendant unanimously acquitted of murder by the jury at Oxford Crown Court on after a three week trial. The allegation was that he had been part of a group which had chased and beaten the victim in June 2017: 4 members of that group were previously convicted of murder in September 2018. DNA analysis and transfer were crucial issues in the trial.
