In her latest article for the April 2026 edition of Gun Trade Insider magazine, LNL’s in-house specialist firearms licensing solicitor Laura Saunsbury explains how Parliament’s decision to reclassify sound moderators is a rare piece of good news for the gun trade and the shooting community. Sound moderators and flash suppressors or hiders will soon cease to be classified as falling within the definition of a section 1 firearm. As a result, when this change in the law takes effect, these accessories can then be sold and purchased without the certificate holder needing to apply and wait for a specific authority to be added to their firearm certificate authorising them to acquire the particular item. This should mean more purchases on impulse of such accessories, and less administrative burden for police firearms licensing departments.
