Miles has conduct of a wide variety of criminal matters with particular emphasis on large-scale fraud and serious crime.

Miles has substantial experience in defending individuals in prosecutions brought by special casework units of the Crown Prosecution Service, the Serious Fraud Office, the Financial Conduct Authority and Revenue & Customs. He has represented defendants in a number of high profile and notable cases in recent years including conspiracy to manipulate shares under the Financial Services Act (City Slickers/Mirrorgate Prosecution), hi-jacking, conspiracy to intercept communications (Jimmy Choo computer hacking case) when he also acted as Junior Trial Advocate. Miles’ current cases include representing a defendant – one of five – charged with conspiracy to supply a substantial quantity of Class A drugs in excess of 200 kg. The matter has been investigated by the Serious Organized Crime Agency.

Miles also represents a suspect being investigated by the Financial Conduct Authority in relation to an insider trading investigation. Miles also represents a defendant charged with computer hacking in multi-jurisdictions and it is alleged the fraud committed on banks and individuals is in excess of several million pounds (trial due in 2012).

Further cases include the representation of a defendant charged with conspiracy to defraud multiple blue chip companies involving the use of compromising stolen credit cards.

The loss already identified is in excess of £500,000.

Current investigations include a multi-million pound internet fraud being investigated by the Money Laundering Investigation Team and New Scotland Yard and the investigation into large-scale fraud by employees of the Santander Bank. It is alleged the number of fraudulent applications are in excess of a hundred and the loss in excess of £20,000,000. The case is being investigated by fraud officers from the City of London Police.

Miles is a serious fraud supervisor of the VHCC. He regularly appears in the Crown Court as a High Court Advocate and is a member of the Peer Review Panel in the category of crime.

Miles has been recommended as leader in his field in Chambers of Partners in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012.

Trained at specialist criminal law firm Robin Murray & Co; qualified in 1994 joining Lewis Nedas & Co as assistant solicitor and became Partner in 1998.

Miles was born on 14 November 1967. Educated at The University of Manchester, LLB Honours. His interests include travelling, contemporary music and football.
