On 17 February 2016 our firearms law specialist did another live radio interview. On this occasion, BBC Radio Cumbria sought her expert views and analysis in light of the comments made by Jesse Hughes on French television the previous day about gun control laws. Jesse Hughes, frontman of Eagles of Death Metal, the band playing at the Bataclan theatre in Paris on the night of the terrorist attacks last November, argued for universal access to firearms. He suggested that further gun related deaths might be prevented if everyone was allowed to carry firearms as a deterrent. However, as Laura Saunsbury observed, this theory was not borne out by statistics from America, where guns are far more widely owned as readily accessible than anywhere in Europe, and yet the incidence of gun related deaths is far higher. Laura went on to explain the far more rigorous process to obtain a firearm or shotgun certificate here in the UK.
Laura's interview can be heard via BBC iPlayer's Radio Cumbria 'Listen Again' service. The interview took place on 17 February 2016 at 09:05-09:10 on Kevin Fernihough's morning show.
