The rise of Section 22 POCA 2002 – What you need to know.

Introduction

1. Section 22 of the Proceeds of Crime Act allows the prosecution to ask the court to reconsider the available amount where a confiscation order has previously been made and the available amount was lower than the benefit amount. This section has been increasingly used in the last year by various police forces in an effort to enforce a larger part of their confiscation orders. In an environment of severely tightened belts, s.22 can be seen by some in law enforcement as a good way to increase funding for their unit. It is not surprising given the reductions in both charging decisions and prosecutions that there are less POCA cases now before the courts which means that there are less orders now being made and enforced.

Laura Saunsbury receives Life Vice President Award from CPSA

At the Clay Pigeon Shooting Association’s annual general meeting on 23rd March 2019 Laura Saunsbury was re-elected by the membership for her eleventh year as the Honorary Solicitor and Shotgun Licensing advisor to the Association. Not only that, we are proud to announce that in recognition of her service to the CPSA and its members over the last decade, the Board of Directors awarded Laura a Life Vice Presidency of the Association. This was a wonderful surprise for Laura, and a great honour indeed, when it is considered the CPSA has approximately 24,000 members and the number of Life Vice Presidents at any one time is generally around 40.

Adam Shaw has been quoted in a Birmingham Live article covering the recent car collision between Prince Phillip and another vehicle.

The Duke of Edinburgh collided with another car as he was pulling out onto a main road. There has been discussion as to whether Prince Phillip will be prosecuted for the crash or not.
